Project: Leader of Helsingin Koominen Ooppera

Åkerlund was appointed to lead a new operahouse in Finland, Helsingin Koominen Ooppera, beginning of August 2016. This new concept of an operahouse is heavily based on the ideas of Walter Felsenstein, the founder of Komische Oper Berlin. The operahouse operates on international level, and shall in the future tour in the Baltic Sea area. Programme choises contain mainly of seldom performed music theater pieces in Finland, that are standard repertoire in the European operahouses.

Chief Conductor is Erkki Lasonpalo, who also is Chief Conductor of Kemi Orchestra. Special productions are taken care by Juhani Helin.
